Free QR Codes That Never Expire
QRLoom's QR codes never expire. Static codes are free, with no trial, and keep working because the link is stored in the code itself, not on our servers. Dynamic codes keep redirecting even if you cancel Pro or stop paying. We never show ads to people who scan, and you can export all your codes any time.
Our pledge, in plain words
Static codes never expire
Everything is in the printed pattern. Even if QRLoom shut down tomorrow, a static code you printed would still scan, as long as the link or details it holds still exist.
Dynamic codes are never switched off over payment
Cancel Pro or let it lapse and your dynamic codes keep sending people to their last destination. We don’t disable the short link or swap in a payment page.
No ads for the people who scan
Scanning one of your codes goes straight to your destination. No ad page, no interstitial, no countdown.
Export everything, any time, on any plan
Download a CSV of all your codes from My QR Codes: title, short link, destination and scan count. You don’t need to upgrade first.
Only editing and analytics are paid
Changing where a dynamic code points, and seeing its scan analytics, needs Pro or a Lifetime code for that one code.
Why other QR codes stop working
Many QR generators sell “dynamic” codes. The printed pattern doesn’t hold your link; it holds a short link on the provider’s server, which forwards people on to your site. That’s useful because you can change the destination later, but it also means the provider decides whether the code works.
A common pattern: a free trial creates dynamic codes by default. When the trial ends, the short link is switched off or shows a payment page, and the codes already printed on menus, flyers and packaging stop working until you pay. Many people only find out when a customer tells them the code is broken.
How to avoid it: if your link won’t change, use a static code, which doesn’t depend on anyone’s server. If you do need a dynamic code, check what happens to it when you stop paying before you print.
QRLoom vs typical trial-based generators
| QRLoom | Typical trial-based generator | |
|---|---|---|
| Static codes | Free, never expire, no sign-up needed | Often behind a trial sign-up, with dynamic codes as the default |
| Dynamic codes after you stop paying | Keep redirecting | Often deactivated or sent to a payment page |
| Ads or interstitials for scanners | Never | Some show a page before the destination |
| Export codes and destinations | CSV, any plan, any time | Often limited to paid plans |
| Pay once for a single code | Lifetime code | Usually monthly or yearly plans only |
The right-hand column describes a common pattern in the market, not any specific provider.
Lifetime code: pay once, edit forever
Need to change where one code points, but don’t want a subscription? Buy a Lifetime code: one dynamic code with an editable destination and scan analytics, paid once. No monthly fee.
How: sign in (a free account is fine), turn on “Dynamic QR code” in the generator below, press Generate, then choose “Buy this code once”.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do QR codes expire?
The QR code itself never expires: it’s a pattern that stores text or a link. A static code that holds your link or Wi-Fi details directly works for as long as that destination exists. Only dynamic codes, which go through a provider’s short link, can stop working, and that is the provider’s decision, not a technical limit. QRLoom doesn’t switch codes off over payment.
What happens if I cancel Pro?
Your dynamic codes keep redirecting to their last destination. What you lose is the ability to change that destination, which comes back if you resubscribe or buy a Lifetime code for that code. Your codes stay in your account, and you can still download them and export a CSV.
Can I move my codes elsewhere?
Yes. “Export CSV” on My QR Codes gives you every code with its short link and destination. Static codes never depended on us. Dynamic codes you already printed keep working here, so you can move at your own pace, and with Pro or a Lifetime code you can point an old code at your new provider.
My QR code stopped working after a trial somewhere else. Can you fix it?
We can’t change a code another service controls, because the printed pattern points to their short link. What you can do is create a new code here, a static one if the destination won’t change, and reprint once.
Is the free plan really free, with no expiry?
Yes, for static codes: create them and download PNG, SVG or PDF with no trial clock. Free downloads carry a small “qrloom.app” caption under the code; Pro removes it.
What is a Lifetime code?
One dynamic code you pay for once. You can change its destination and see its scan analytics for good, with no monthly fee. You need a QRLoom account (free) and pay through Stripe.
Is there any case where QRLoom would disable a code?
Two: you delete it yourself, or it breaks our Terms (for example, a phishing or malware link). We don’t disable codes because you didn’t pay or cancelled a plan.
